Mac Mini, THE source audio ?

Hi Alexis,
I really understand the sensitivity issue you have for particular brightness and female vocals. I myself have a similar issue. In terms of the Mac Mini, its construction and use of very low power devices with unique ground plane and power supplies are how it was made so small. It just so happens that all the things that Apple engineers for this small, low powered computer give us audiophiles an amazing sounding computer. When compared to typical computers and laptops. the Mini sounds more relaxed with a larger soundstage, air and much more analog. In a nutshell, its the best sounding computer and when compared to other typical computers shows their issues on how they affect the sound comparably.
Virtually 100% of the Tranquility owners world wide now use the Mac Mini as their source. I've also had owners of many other DAC designs learn that paying attention to the computer itself yields amazing improvements. Hence, you may want to look there first for your improvements. Just a thought, I have no financial stake in recommending any particular computer system. My goal is to identify the best sounding computer set-ups for my customers, understand why they may sound better or different and subsequently give them that information.
And as a postscript, the use of a Mac Mini for delivering your files to a DAC is not something required for just the Tranquility design in particular. Many DACs with excellent design criteria show the Mac Mini's amazing abilities. We've heard the following DACs from these manufacturers improve dramatically with the Mac Mini : Ayre, Bel Canto, PS Audio, Wavelength, Esoteric, Berkley, Wyred, Musicstreamer. Hence, the Mac Mini's ability to deliver MORE of everything musical comes through on all great DAC designs!
