Comparaison avec le Flux FA-10 (749$) sur headfonia :

Schiit Audio – Ragnarok II (1,499$)

The Ragnarok II is not your typical headphone amplifier. Heck, I almost exclusively use it as a speaker amp with my Kef LS50 bookshelf speakers. It only gets used as a headphone amp when I have to compare it to something else. Like now.

In terms of connectivity and specs, it’s the Ragnarok II that offers more flexibility. You get two XLR and one RCA input as standard with the Schiit. On top of that, you can also configure it to “fully loaded” (adds USB and Phono input) or as “amp only” (adds two RCA line level inputs).

The Ragnarok also comes with speaker outputs and pre-amp XLR outs. Power wise the Ragnarok II also puts the FA-10 in its rear view mirror. With 24 Watts into 32 Ohms load, it puts out a full 8 Watts more than the FA-10.

In a sound perspective though, it is the FA-10 that wins the race for me. The FA-10 has a much cleaner sound than the Ragnarok II to me. The Schiit sounds a lot smoother than the Flux, which is mostly audible in the midrange. The FA-10 is a lot more transparent and detailed. When using the Ragnarok II with the Diana Phi you can tell how much detail gets lost with the over-sized smoothness.

To me, the FA-10 also has better control over my headphones. It gives them a darker background than the Ragnarok II. The FA-10 has a more linear sound compared to the Schiit, which gives a slight bump in the upper bass and lower mids section. The Ragnarok II certainly has more meat on its bones, which might be something that you’re after.

The FA-10 creates a wider and deeper stage, with better positioning and rendering. It has higher resolution and renders a clearer picture to me. The Ragnarok II produces a sound, that is overly organic to an extent where it loses sight of being natural.

The Ragnarok II is performing a lot better as speaker amp in my opinion. The headphone section doesn’t really do it for me. As a headphone amp only, it is inferior to the FA-10.
